Overview of the Postgraduate School
In offering Postgraduate programmes the South African Theological Seminary hopes to afford students wherever they reside, the opportunity to study with respected scholars at this highest level without leaving their home or full-time ministry.
Accreditation
All programmes offered by the South African Theological Seminary are accredited by the South African Council on Higher Education (CHE), the only accrediting agency recognised by the South African government.
Programmes
Bachelor of Theology Honours (BTh Hons.) 120 credits on NQF Level 8 (5 papers of 24 credits each)
This programme consists of five modules each culminating in a research paper.
Master of Theology (MTh) 180 credits on NQF Level 9
MTh Programme Options:
We offer two kinds of MTh programmes namely the Research MTh and the Structured MTh.
Research MTh consists of a 180 credit thesis of 40,000 – 50,000 words (approximately 140-160 pages) in a field of specialisation.
Structured MTh consists of a combination of course work and a mini-thesis.
Doctor of Philosophy in Theology (PhD) 360 credits on NQF Level 10
Our Doctoral programme is a research-based programme consisting of a dissertation. The Admissions Committee reserves the right to assign further reading or additional theological subjects, should it be deemed necessary .
Our programme offers you the opportunity to conduct research in any theological field.
Your research is conducted under the supervision of one or two experts in the chosen field(s) of study.
Our doctoral supervisors have been carefully selected to provide you with the high academic standards and levels of service excellence for which we have become known.
