Outcomes-based Education

The key concept in Outcomes-Based Education is that the student should be trained or taught to demonstrate something specific, e g the ability to preach a sermon. In designing the curricula, we at the South African Theological Seminary have developed two sets of outcomes – those pertaining to a member of a local church, and those additional outcomes pertaining to a leader of a local church.

The outcome clusters for a member of a local church are:

  1. Personal spiritual growth
  2. Prayer and worship
  3. Biblical understanding and application
  4. Personal witness
  5. Church fellowship
Incorporated in:
+ Core Programme
+ Certifi cate Programme
+ Most of the Diploma Programme

The additional outcome clusters for a leader of a local church are:

  1. Leadership
  2. Pastoral care
  3. Preaching and teaching
  4. Church administration
Incorporated in:
+ Some of the Diploma Programme
+ B Th Programme
