Enrolment

CERTIFICATES

To register for any Certificate programme, prospective students require one of the following:
  • National Senior Certificate as certified by Umalusi. Applicants with different qualifications may only be admitted if they are judged equivalent by the designated equivalence-setting bodies.
  • A tertiary qualification at an accredited institution registered by the Department of Education.
  • A tertiary qualification at a foreign institution accredited by a recognised accrediting body or by the institution's national government.

Certified/notarized proof of one of the above requirements should accompany the application form, together with a certified/notarized copy of the student's Identification Document or valid Passport.

All those who meet these criteria and whose English is of a sufficient standard, are accepted into the programme.

BACHELOR OF THEOLOGY

To register for this programme, prospective students require one of the following:

  1. National Senior Certificate as certified by Umalusi, with an achievement rating of 4 (50% - 59%) or better in four recognised NSC 20-credit subjects from the designated list in the Minimum Admission Requirements for Higher Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor's Degree Programmes requiring a National Senior Certificate, Government Gazette, Vol. 482, No. 27961, 18 August 2005. Applicants with different qualifications may only be admitted if they are judged equivalent by the designated equivalence-setting bodies. Alternatively a Higher Certificate or Advanced Certificate in a cognate field will satisfy the minimum requirement.
  2. A tertiary qualification at an accredited institution registered by the Department of Education.
  3. A tertiary qualification at a foreign institution accredited by a recognised accrediting body or by the institution's national government.

Certified/notarized proof of one of the above requirements should accompany the application form, together with a certified/notarized copy of the student's Identification Document or valid Passport.

All those who meet these criteria and whose English is of a sufficient standard, are accepted into the programme. 

3. BACHELOR OF THEOLOGY HONOURS

To qualify for admission to the BTh Honours, candidates must have maintained an average of at least 60 percent in their undergraduate degree. They must additionally meet one of these admission requirements.

  1. Bachelor of Theology or cognate qualification
  2. Bachelor's degree in another field accompanied by a Certificate or Diploma in Theology and/or by extensive ministry experience.

Applicants in category 2 are required to draw up a portfolio of evidence that contains a detailed presentation of their prior qualifications and ministry experience. The Admission's Committee will assess the candidate's portfolio and, if deemed necessary, either set an admission test or prescribe bridging coursework (typically in the form of undergraduate modules in the discipline).

MASTER OF THEOLOGY

The minimum admission requirement is a relevant Bachelor Honours Degree. A "professional" Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 96 credits at level 8 or a Postgraduate Diploma may also be recognised as meeting the minimum entry requirement to a cognate Master's Degree programme. In all cases, the qualification must have been earned at an accredited institution. In the case of foreign qualifications the institution must be accredited by a recognised accrediting body or by the institution's national government. Candidates must have achieved an above average grade in their entry-level qualification.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (IN THEOLOGY)

The minimum admission requirement is a relevant Master’s Degree from an accredited institution for which the candidate must have achieved an above average grade. In the case of foreign qualifications the institution must be accredited by a recognised accrediting body or by the institution’s national government.

Please complete the section headed “Recognition of Prior Learning” if you would like your previous study and experience to be considered for credit. When we receive your application and relevant documents, we will send you an evaluation of your prior learning credits together with a letter explaining enrolments procedures.

A reminder that all our subjects are offered by distance education and NO residence facilities are available.
